Peace Place Inc.
Details
Peace Place Inc. offers emergency shelter, transitional housing, legal advocacy, safety planning, educational presentations, and children/teen services.
Emergency Shelter
Peace Place is able to offer emergency shelter for up to 16 women and children escaping domestic violence situations. If the shelter is full or would not be a safe place for the individual/family, Peace Place may provide hotel accommodations as a safe alternative. In addition, in partnering with AHIMSA House, Peace Place also provides a safe option for pets as survivors transition from abusive situations to safer, permanent housing. To determine if we have room in the shelter and if you meet the shelter criteria, call our Crisis Hotline at 706-387-0100.
Transitional Housing
Peace Place has four apartment style housing units and three houses in Barrow county. Transitional housing is offered for up to 12 months for qualified emergency shelter clients. The focus is on economic empowerment to move clients towards sustainability for independent and permanent housing, primarily geared toward living a life free from abuse.
Legal Advocacy
We offer legal advocacy services for survivors and their children who choose to remain in their home as well as those who have left their abuser. Legal Advocacy is available in Banks, Barrow, and Jackson counties. We are able to assist with filing Temporary Protective Orders, Stalking Orders, and/or are able to accompany survivors to court. If you need assistance filing a Temporary Protective Order, please contact our Legal and Outreach Advocate, Christina Sannino at legaladvocate@peaceplaceinc.org
Children & Family Advocacy
Peace Place Inc. offers a Children and Family Advocate to help with parenting and child development in shelter and outreach. We also offer support groups for kids in conjunction with the adult support group in Barrow County.
Teen Program
Our program is designed with the purpose and mission to bring awareness about healthy and safe relationships to the adolescents and youth community of Barrow, Banks, and Jackson counties. If you would like our Teen Advocate to speak to your school, club, church or other organization please contact us at peaceplace@peaceplaceinc.org.
Safety Planning
Safety planning helps to lower the risk of being hurt by an abuser. It includes information specific to the survivor and their current living situation that will help keep them safe. It is NOT a one-time process but is continually re-evaluated to address changes in work, school or living environments.
